For those of you that like “Geek Speak” here are the full details of why SavantX AI cracks the code of human communication – making us ‘computable.’
SavantX is a weak AI system that specializes in helping users Search, Discover and Analyze very large sets of textual data. SavantX is not semantically based, but rather views human-generated text as a type of encoded sensor output. It is currently in use at a large energy power plant where it applies its generalized relationship analysis capabilities towards the safe and efficient operation of the plant. SavantX uses custom algorithms for its massively parallel computation workflow. It’s almost entirely Mathematica-based and can readily assimilate large amounts of human-generated text as found in files and databases of any type: TXT, PDF, XLS, DOC, BAK, SQL, etc. It will also automatically convert OCR images to text.
SavantX is a WL package that is isometric in nature: all Wolfram kernels run the same Mathematica code. All configuring themselves to the highest priority task at hand and using continuous and discrete manufacturing methods. All this allows the application of AI science to many aspects of its tasks including Classify, Predict, etc.
Learn MoreAll too often organizations have the problem of data overload. By this, we mean that they have massive amounts of data with no real way to sort, organize, and find specific information that they are looking for.
Take for example a nuclear power plant.
The most commonly found statements when it comes to this type of organizational data are:
- I can’t find anything.
- How did we fix this the last time?
- Why did this happen?
- I wish I could predict…
- What’s the relationship between X and Y?
Human generated data is responsible for compiling massive amounts of data within an organization. Say that the company has 1,500 workers and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. On average the company accumulates 1,000+ pages a day and the information is put into multiple databases.
This is a common scenario that SavantX sees. The good news is that no matter what type of source (PDF, Word Doc, Excel, Telemetry, SQL database, image files, etc.) they can all be read and searched by SavantX.
Leadership within many organizations have given up on the idea that they can ever find a solution to address their data challenges. But the hard truth is that there is a solution. It’s called SavantX.
Learn MoreYou’ve probably noticed if you have taken a look through the SavantX website that our tagline is “Search, Discover, and Analyze.” While this seems pretty straightforward and is something that nearly all of us do when we complete a simple Google search, with SavantX these three terms take on a completely different meaning and go deeper into the data than any other search solution. Here is the SavantX approach to Search, Discover, and Analyze.
Search:
Clients need to find their documents in three different search modes.
1. Needle in the haystack
2. Set of related documents: 3 to say 100
3. Analyze a large set of homogeneous passages
Discover:
Searches can return very large data sets.
1. How to guide users to better search terms
2. How to summarize the contents of the return set
3. Quickly allow access to homogeneous subsets of the search returns
Analyze:
How to extract information from homogeneous passage sets.
1. Time plots
2. Trends
3. Spikes
4. Correlations

Mention technology to any leader within an organization and their mind almost automatically drifts to seeing dollar signs, experiencing headaches coupled with logistical nightmares, and time ticking by until the solution can be implemented.
It is not unusual for an organization’s culture to resist change. It is, after all, part of the human condition. Thankfully, there are ‘higher ups’ with a vision that their organization already has answers to problems faced every day – they just need the right technology.
SavantX offers a unique opportunity for an organization to be empowered through their data. We help cultures embrace change even though many may feel threatened in the organization by cutting edge technology, or perhaps just technology in general. It can be overwhelming for some: fear that they won’t be able to operate a complex new system, worries over their job becoming obsolete, anxiety over the technology not adequately addressing the organization’s need, and apprehension of investing valuable time and budget towards a new solution.
Facing Cultural Challenges
Overcoming key enterprise architectural changes and implementing new technology systems can be complicated. Cultural challenges of people resisting change abound and complicate additional technical and organizational challenges. Many organizations face a daunting task as higher level management are nearing retirement age. The fear is that the newer generation of the workforce will not train up and inevitably something will be missed in the transition as the torch is handed off to new management and other employees. Enabling knowledge transfer in a way that is seamless is every organization’s ultimate goal. However, legacy systems may prevent successful information transference. The goal is to break down the barrier in resisting change and embrace new technology that can make everyone’s lives (and jobs) much easier. IT may already feel overwhelmed, and add in cultural adoption barriers and an organization then has a lot to overcome in order to make a case for new technology.
What Can SavantX do for You?
If data can help your organization then finding a solution for data challenges should be a top priority. That’s where SavantX comes in. There is an irony of calling ourselves a search engine. Most organizations believe that they have a solid search engine solution in place and don’t need another one. It’s nearly impossible to find a single system that can address all of an organization’s challenges ranging from data, infrastructure and analytics. Until now… SavantX is able to provide value from massive amounts of data. We offer next-generation discovery (more than just search!) solutions for the energy industry and beyond. To learn more about what SavantX can do for your organization just visit www.SavantX.com.
In an incredibly complex environment, we need to easily connect the data and find what is needed to help business knowledge. SavantX is able to unlock a vast number of capabilities that other software and services are unable to do. So many solutions promise the moon and upon implementation, it underwhelms the organization.
Overcoming the Barriers
Due to technical limitations it has actually limited how organizations are able to implement data solutions within their industry. Many barriers exist varying from IT professionals adapting to the idea of applying new technology to other technical limitations.
We realize that customers want to be in control of their data. It takes trust and forethought to engage with a solution. SavantX is able to create customized experiences that can fit nearly any organization’s needs.
When looking at different search technologies, ask yourself three questions:
1) How can this technology further the organization?
2) What are the goals that you have in implementing a new technology?
3) Are the costs and time associated with the search technology worth it?
You have a gap in your organization, and you have given up on ever finding a technology that will fill it. You’ve given up on the idea of ever being able to find your data quickly.
Data chaos is a real problem within almost every organization.
Nothing to see here. Nothing to research since we are finding everything. That is until we type in ‘valve system error’ and we see that it returns 25,623 results! How do you ever plan on narrowing down that massive search result list? Let’s bust the myth that all of an organization’s search challenges are solved.
The Data Genie
So many think that they can just purchase an ‘analytics out of the box solution’ and all data problems will immediately be solved. Many solutions fall short in addressing all data challenges. Sure solving semi-structured or structured data challenges can be significant. But what about unstructured data? What if one solution could address all three data challenges (think unstructured, semi-structured and structured data)? Business and technology innovation continue to evolve, but many search solutions never do.
Actionable information is critical to any infrastructure. Enterprises can experience a transformation in the way that they can find data and use it to their advantage.
Nearly every organization has high expectations for using their data, but the hard truth is that many never even make a dent in using all of the data that has been accumulated over the years, let alone have a plan for what to do with future data. It may be time to champion the shift and attempt to keep up with the ever-growing amount of data that the organization is accumulating on a daily basis. SavantX is a Discovery and Insight Platform that uses proprietary technologies to drive search capabilities. By utilizing flexible architecture, SavantX can be scaled to fit any individual organization’s needs.
You can keep using the wrong solutions and missing out on critical information that is unable to be found. Or you can reduce operational costs by securely analyzing, monitoring and controlling data within your organization with the power of SavantX technology. Implementing a search platform shouldn’t be complicated, let us make it simple.
Learn MoreOut of all the types of data out there, it seems like most have ignored what is perhaps the most valuable: unstructured data.
Why?
The reason is simple – unstructured data is messy and wickedly difficult to search in meaningful ways.
Perhaps the easiest way to think of structured vs. unstructured data is your typical email. The header with date, to, from and subject line is all structured data. The date field, will always be the date field. We can count on that.
However, what you write in the body of the email is whatever you decide to say. Could be anything, right? Text becomes words, words sentences… then perhaps paragraphs. Could be numbers…calculations. You name it. We know for sure from a data science perspective, that we can’t be sure what to expect.
Why Should You Care?
You think structured data is great and can’t imagine finding information from both unstructured data and structured data. Unstructured data is growing at a rapid pace, and many ‘solutions’ fail to take into account searching through the massive amounts of unstructured data in an organization.
Having a ‘Store Everything’ Approach
Some organizations go with a ‘store everything’ approach, yet their solutions for search only primarily address structured data. Leaving unstructured and potentially semi-structured data untouched.
Why is This a Big Deal?
Because 95% of data is unstructured, only 5% of data is structured! In the business world, this goes down to an average of 80% of data being unstructured and 20% of data structured. With most solutions only addressing structured (and maybe semi-structured data) this equates to the average organization missing out on using anywhere between 80 to 95 percent of their data on average.
When speaking with organizations, many will state that their current top challenge is the explosion of unstructured data. The ‘store everything’ mentality now challenges organizational leaders to find a solution that can address all data challenges rather than just the 5 to 20 percent of structured data that they can easily access.
The organization is now exposed to risk because it can’t fully utilize all of the data accumulated. Unstructured data challenges pose risks to just about any organization, at SavantX we realize that organizations need full access to all three types of data (structured, unstructured and semi-structured) and that’s why our technology was built around the most difficult data challenge: unstructured data.
Demystifying Unstructured Data
Unstructured data can come from a variety of sources, ranging from email messages, sensory data, call center data, Word documents, PowerPoint slides, image, audio and video files, and the list goes on. The power to harness unstructured data has been challenging as the many tools available on the market today are built around complex semantic analysis of unstructured data. This approach is expensive and requires a herculean effort to customize, operationalize and maintain for an organization.
Technology within the enterprise has seen an increasingly higher demand for organizations to be on the forefront of innovation especially in addressing data challenges. Unfortunately, many organizations pay only lip service to unstructured data – never really addressing the problems of search and discovery in this domain. By combining unstructured data with structured data as well as semi-structured data, an organization can integrate all data sources and quickly find the information they seek – efficiently and quickly.
But it’s not just that simple. Many tools may tout that they can integrate unstructured data with structured data, but the hard reality is that fragmentation and inconsistency of data may be realized. SavantX can seamlessly integrate all three types of data and provide for an easy to operate and user customizable interface to find necessary information.
Data hoarding happens in nearly every organization, but it’s what the organization does with the data that makes the difference. Regulatory requirements don’t go away. By utilizing a solution that additionally addresses unstructured data (in addition to structured and semi-structured), an organization can further mitigate risks and identify opportunities through security, safety, compliance, risk, legal and other information.
Data problems haven’t gone away, and organizations need to realize that. An estimated 80 percent of enterprise data is unstructured according to one Gartner estimate. The question really becomes how can data help your organization? And having easy access to unstructured data can significantly help. Differentiate your organization from the rest by leveraging the opportunities that utilizing unstructured data presents.
Learn MoreIn a world of hundreds of millions of files, how do you find the one you’re looking for? Here’s a fun video on how SavantX uses Wolfram Mathematica to apply science to tough, real-world problems with large datasets. The power of Mathematica allows the SavantX team to offer clients (primarily within the nuclear power generation industry) the unique ability to Search, Discover, and Gain Insights from vast datasets comprised of many data types.

Learn MoreThe year was 2011 and a massive earthquake and tsunami rocked Japan. The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident remains marked in history. The 9 magnitude earthquake sent a Tsunami that reached over 45 feet towards the plant. Unfortunately, the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant was only designed to withstand an earthquake of 7 plus magnitude and only had an 18-foot wall constructed between the plant and the Pacific Ocean. It was called 3/11 and was a devastating nuclear disaster, marking the worst accident at a nuclear power plant since the 1986 Chernobyl accident. A focus on nuclear safety has been on the forefront of discussions since the Fukushima disaster. Five years later it is estimated that the Fukushima nuclear disaster has cost Japan over $118 billion.
Lessons Learned from Fukushima
Worldwide nuclear safety has seen billions invested into safety and security upgrades to ensure that an accident of the same magnitude of Fukushima can’t take place again. The nightmare that was Fukushima called attention to nuclear power plants worldwide. Within the United States, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission looked at the various types of natural disasters (or a design basis threat) that could occur to nuclear power plants thus calling attention to the need for increased safety and security. A $4 billion industrywide investment towards nuclear power plants in the United States was made to ensure future security. Mandatory regulations went into effect as well as intense inspections of every nuclear reactor within the United States.
Planned or unplanned, plant outages are costly. The ‘worst-case’ thinking after the Fukushima Disaster has many within the industry preparing for the worst especially when it comes to hazards like earthquakes and flooding. Thinking beyond design basis is a critical component to every plant’s operations. The overall nuclear safety culture has changed, and SavantX is here to support it.
